2007 Year End Message

Dear Students, Friends and Family.

As 2007 draws to a close, I wanted to take the time to thank people for their participation in our Alliance.

This has been a huge year of growth for the Alliance in New Zealand. Not only did we welcome a long lost friend, Mr Warren Hart, who in turn has found a place in our family and brought us one more Dojo, but we have hosted Amor Kaicho again, had the pleasure of showing Kinsella Shihan the beauty of our country and hospitality, and welcomed the opportunity to share our teachings and family spirit with Mr Adam Lang - another long lost friend from the old Ryukyu Kempo Karate New Zealand days.

Our Alliance is growing stronger with every class, week, month and year that passes. Although I say this often, I am always so surprised that the journey that started with myself and Standish Sensei travelling to America to further our own knowledge has brought so much joy and happiness to so many people. The amazing thing is that we have only been doing this for four short years - there is truly so much to come. The future for the United Ryukyu Kempo Alliance in New Zealand will truly set a standard for others to compare around the world.

The fact that we have been able to come together and hold two successful camps this year, along with many seminar weekends in Wellington and New Plymouth is a testament to the students and support we have in our group. As we continue to grow, it is this spirit and feeling of togetherness that will make our organisation stand out above all others.

Our Dojo Instructors have made huge advances in learning the Alliance curriculum. The entire Adult Mudansha (coloured belt) curriculum has been rolled out in New Zealand. We are now introducing the Yudansha (Black Belt) curriculum and look forward to rolling out the Kids Mudansha curriculum in 2008.

I want to personally thank Richardson Shiahan and Hart Sensei for their efforts within our organisation as I know it would not have grown as it has without their passion and support. I also want to thank Standish Sensei and Irvine Sensei for their assistance at the Ryukenkan as I could not teach the classes on my own.

The Bukenkan Yudansha who support Richardson Shihan must also be thanked for their drive and enthusiasm that helps keep their Dojo alive and growing. I know Richardson Shiihan would be troubled to do it without each and every one of you.

To Duanne, Gary, Nathan and Adie in Wellington - I know your support of Hart Sensei will bear fruit in a short time allowing Kunrenkan to grow into a pillar of traditional Ryukyu Kempo in the Hutt valley area. I look forward to having the honour of awarding you your Shodan in the future.

Throughout New Zealand, we are blessed to have many enthusiastic, passionate and driven kids studying our art. Although they may not believe it, it is these young people who will keep our Alliance alive when the older ones are all in wheelchairs and dribbling in their soup.

I want to thank Mr Adam Lang for taking time away from his family and friends to come and share in our experiences. We have not had the pleasure of sharing extended time together for many years, but the camps we have had this year have reminded me of the fun we shared in our old organisation. We have been pleased to share our understanding of the Ryukyu arts with Mr Lang and hope that the experiences and information he has taken with him will bring increased meaning and understanding to his students allowing his organisation to grow and become stronger in years to come.

To all our students, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May you all stay safe and healthy across the break and return to classes in 2008 ready to make it an even better year than this one has been.

Amor Kaicho has expressed his enthusiasm towards returning to New Zealand for a third time to help us in 2008. I personally can't wait to see what we will have achieved by the time he returns. Will you all work with me to help his dream be fulfilled in this part of the world? I certainly hope so.

Domo Arigato Gozaimasu!

Renshi
