First Dan Grades Awarded in New Zealand During Spring Camp 2007, the first Dan Grade commissions were awarded to Bukenkan students Adam Reid and Jeremy Martin-Smith. Their examination began with the start of camp on the Friday evening, and culminated in their award ceremony on Sunday. Both men were put through their paces and closely scrutinised by URKA Senior Instructors and Amor Kaicho. While many other students were awarded cross-over commissions recognising their achievements in other Ryukyu arts, these two gents are the first students to be graded into the Yudansha ranks. Being the first Yudansha grade commissions awarded in New Zealand, both men have set a high standard for others to follow. The whole United Ryukyu Kempo Alliance congratulated Adam and Jeremy on their success and we look forward to seeing them continue to grow and develop.
