Keep an Honest and Sincere Way "Makoto no michi wo mamoru koto" Although it sounds simple enough, this is hard to do all the time. Part of keeping an honest and sincere way is something as simple as paying your bills on time. Or, if you simply can't do it, having the good moral character to ring the other party and negotiate an agreement. Ignoring your responsibilities doesn't make them go away, nor does it help you to be perceived as an honest and sincere person. Another facet of Honesty and Sincerity is begin able to say what you mean, and mean what you say. Too many people are only too quick to tell you what they think you want to hear. If you think about what you are saying, and word it correctly, you can say what you mean without causing hurt to the other person. Sometimes it's hard, but it's a skill we all must master. Honesty extends to how we conduct ourselves. Is it honest to sneak a grape or two in the supermarket? Maybe it doesn't hurt anyone (if you don't get caught), but it's still stealing and dishonest. Is it honest to sneak fruit from the neighbours trees without their knowing? Is it honest to end a cheque knowing that it will bounce? In Karate training, keeping an honest and sincere way is as simple as begin honest with yourself. Do you always give everything you've got, or are you constantly "cruising" along in class fooling yourself into believing that you're doing your best. Of all the people you need to be most honest and sincere with, you owe it to yourself to be honest and sincere with yourself. All these things and many more add up to living Dojo Kun number 2. |
